“If one were to pick anyone up at random and study him intensely enough in all the ramifications of his life, we would get the whole story of man.”
This blog is part journal, part journalism.
My goal is to illuminate uncommon individuals through extended profiles and film photographs. I want to explore and expose the craggy and shadowy edges and depths of this frayed existence. I want to mediate moments of intimacy.
For the past two years I have spotlighted outliers in small detail. I've relayed stories with a single portrait and whatever insights or quotes I've been able to garner in a fifteen- to ninety-minute conversation on the street. But that is not my ultimate aim.
My ultimate aim is to blend long-form profile journalism and artistic portraiture in order to bring you stories and personalities in rich detail. To do this I need to spend more time on the road and with my subjects—days, weeks, months?—and that requires money. (Next comes the part where I solicit you.)
If you appreciate my work and would like to support it, there are three ways to do so.
You can buy fine art photographs in the store.
You can throw money at me via a monthly subscription or one-time gift.
You can hire me to freelance for your publication.
WHY should you do this? Well, probably you shouldn't. We probably all should continue to watch the news and click on listicles and buy products that promise to make us happy, healthy, wealthy, smart, strong, and beautiful. . .
Listen, if I were in the position to do so, I'd forever make photographs and give them away. But this is the world we live in, and this is me trying to survive in it.
Thanks for your support.
